Hailing from a small town near Barcelona, Laia is a classical pianist whose artistry combines a performing career with a passion for composition and improvisation. Her work seamlessly blends tradition with creativity.
Laia earned her degree at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, studying piano with Àlex Alguacil and chamber music with Emili Brugalla. Along the way, she honed her craft in masterclasses with renowned pianists such as Ya-Fei Chuang, Ian Jones, Danny Driver, Péter Nagy, Vasco Dantas, Congyu Wang, Stephanie Baer, Akiko Ebi, Ilya Maximov and Yejin Gil among others. But her interests extend beyond music, as she also holds a Bachelor’s in Biology and a Master’s in Genetics and Genomics from the University of Barcelona, showcasing a rare blend of artistic and scientific pursuits.
Laia's solo career is complemented by her devotion to chamber music. As a founding member of Trio Aqua, she has performed internationally and participated in masterclasses with internationally acclaimed musicians such as Adrian Brendel, Péter Nagy, Salvador Brotons, Luc-Marie Aguera and Jan Bjøranger. Collaborations with violinist Jardiel Rodellas in fusion music concerts further highlight her versatility. Previously to these events, she obtained the 3rd prize in IX Concurs de Música de Cambra Higini Anglès (2013).
All of this has brought Laia to perform on many iconic stages, both as a soloist and as a chamber musician: the Teatro das Figuras (Faro), Auditori del Tívoli (el Vendrell), Jardí dels Tarongers (Barcelona), Sala Parés (Barcelona), Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona, Nathan Milstein Hall (Estocolm), Kleines Studio (Salzburg) and at the Real Collegio (Lucca) among others. In 2023, she made her orchestral debut with the Orquestra do Algarve, performing Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E minor under the baton of Joshua dos Santos.
Since a very young age, Laia has been interested in composing music and some of her pieces has been awarded and premiered. In 2023, her piece Like Water won 2nd Prize at the Leonardo4Music Competition and premiered at BOZAR in Brussels. Her arrangement Sweet Festivities (Les Dolces Festes) was showcased in Lisbon, and she is now composing music for a new ballet. Guided by composer Mike Ladouceur, Laia continues to explore the boundaries of musical expression.
Moreover, musical improvisation is at the heart of Laia’s artistry, learning from acclaimed pianists such as Carles Marigó, Emilio Molina, and Juan Maria Cisneros. She has further explored this craft in the context of dance accompaniment, studying with experts like Kim Helweg, Mariana Palacios, Alberto de Paz, and Juanjo Ochoa. Currently, she collaborates with professional dancers at the High-Performance Centre of Dance in Terrassa (PAR) and IEA Oriol Martorell, providing accompaniment for classical, contemporary, and Spanish dancers. Her work has brought her to perform for internationally renowned maestros, including Rodolfo Castellanos, Anael Martín, Ilya Jivoy, William Castro, Magalí Suárez, Jia Yong Sun, among others, which highlights her ability to bring spontaneity and emotion to every performance.
In 2025, Laia releases her debut solo album, Beyond the Score: Mozart & Chopin. This project not only celebrates the timeless works of these composers but reimagines them through the lens of improvisation, offering a fresh perspective on classical music.
Laia shares her passion for music, composition, and improvisation on her growing YouTube channel, inviting audiences to experience her creative process and connect with her innovative vision.
