About Laia

Laia is a classical pianist born in 1999, originally from a town near Barcelona. Her passion as a solo pianist goes hand in hand with her deep interest in the world of composition and improvisation.

She got graduated at Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu of Barcelona under the teaching of Àlex Alguacil, and studied chamber music with Emili Brugalla. In addition, she has had the opportunity to play for world-renowned pianists in masterclasses, such as Ya-Fei Chuang, Stephanie Baer, Ian Jones, Danny Driver, Péter Nagy, Akiko Ebi, Ilya Maximov, Yejin Gil, Wei-Yi Yang and Benedicte Palko. During her undergraduate studies, she also studied the Bachelor in Biology at the University of Barcelona, followed by a Master in Genetics and Genomics in the same university.

Laia has performed numerous times at social and cultural venues, which stand out the "Cicle de Concerts d'Esglésies i Castells" in Anoia, the inaugural concert of "Primavera Gran 2016", "Premis Ciutat d'Igualada", "Pianissim", "Music's Corner Concerts" at La Cavallerizza (Italy), Europe Day Concert 2022 organised by Foro Cultural de la Fundación del Fomento Europeo with the collaboration of the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona, and has always collaborated in "Toca'm", organised by Associació del Concurs Internacional de Música Maria Canals de Barcelona. In addition, she has performed in historical stages, such as at Sala Parés of Barcelona and at Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona.

Her soloist career has always been accompanied with her devotion to chamber music. In 2018, two colleagues and herself formed Trio Aqua. Since then, they have performed in several stages, such as Nota 79, Centre Cívic Can Déu, Victòria dels Àngels de Sant Cugat del Vallès, Real Collegio (Italy), Auditori del Tívoli and Jardí dels Tarongers. In addition, they have participated in some masterclasses by Adrian Brendel, Péter Nagy, Salvador Brotons, Luc-Marie Aguera and Jan Bjøranger. Furthermore, she obtained the 3rd prize in IX Concurs de Música de Cambra Higini Anglès (2013).

On the other hand, her passion for musical composition and improvisation has led her to the world of Ballet accompaniment, playing for professional dancers in the High-Performance Centre of Dance in Terrassa (PAR). She has learnt this craft from renowned pianists such as Mariana Palacios, Alberto de Paz and Juanjo Ochoa. Furthermore, in 2023, her composition "Like Water" won the 2nd Prize at Leonardo4Music Competition, which afterwards was world premiered at BOZAR in Brussels.
